چکیده

A dynamic coefficient of friction (COF) measurement device is described for use in recording shoe/floor slip resistance. This device is computercontrolled and allows changes in the shoe/floor interface velocity and vertical force applied during a test. Different sole materials, floors, and contaminants such as water or oil are testable. Repeatability tests of the device were conducted of four velocities (1,2,5, and 10 cm/s), three vertical force levels (5,10, and 20 kg), and three floor conditions (dry, wet, and oily). These tests showed that the COF measurements were highly repeatable with trial-to-trial standard deviations of from 0.5% to 4% of the means under all conditions.

Design of a New Instrument for Measuring Frictional Properties of Woven Fabrics

Friction measurement is one of important and interesting problems in the study of handle properties of fabrics. Different methods have been developed for measuring friction, such as sliding, KES and cyclic testing method. In this research, considering the possibilities of varying conditions in measuring friction, a new instrument by which the bottom surface of fabric can be moved and the top sl...

Design of Variable-friction devices for shoe-floor contact

In rehabilitation training, high-fidelity simulation environments are needed for reproducing the effects of slippery surfaces, in which potential balance failure conditions can be reproduced on demand. Motivated by these requirements, this article considers the design of variable-friction devices for use in the context of human walking on surfaces in which the coefficient of friction can be con...

Research on slip resistance measurements--a new challenge.

Slips, trips and falls are one of the most common causes of injuries and fatalities in the general community and industry. The control of such incidents involves a complex array of factors including the characteristics of each individual's footwear and gait dynamics, walking and working surfaces, and environmental conditions. Notwithstanding this complexity, slip resistance properties have been...

The roles of whole body balance, shoe-floor friction and joint strength during maximum exertions: searching for the "weakest link".

Exerting manual forces is critical during occupational performance. Therefore, being able to estimate maximum force capacity is particularly useful for determining how these manual exertion demands relate to available capacity. To facilitate this type of prediction requires a complete understanding of how maximum force capacity is governed biomechanically. This research focused on identifying h...

Floor slipperiness measurement: friction coefficient, roughness of floors, and subjective perception under spillage conditions

Measurement of the coefficient of friction (COF) between the shoe/sole and the floor is essential in understanding the risk of slipping accidents. In this research, the COF of five floor materials commonly used on a university campus, under five surface conditions including dry and four liquid spillage conditions, were measured. The COF measurements were conducted using a Brungraber Mark II sli...
